More comprehensive knowledge of the world of music helps us relate to music in a better way and a deeper enjoyment of the music we listen to, practice, or perform. The first term of this course will begin by looking at the first part of �Music: An Appreciation� by �Roger Kamien�, exploring the main elements that build a piece of music, and explain them in a simple way and continue to use our understanding of the elements to listen to pieces comprising the history of Western music.

Keyan Emami has been teaching piano, theory, and composition to all ages and levels of students for almost 20 years. He is a doctoral candidate in Music Composition program at the University of Toronto, and is currently working there as a teaching assistant. After receiving his bachelor�s degree in polymer engineering at the Polytechnic University of Tehran, Keyan studied Music Composition at the Art University of Tehran where he completed a master�s degree, graduated with first-degree honor and was awarded with the Best Master�s Thesis Prize for his Symphony in Three Movements. Keyan has several years of teaching experience at the University of Toronto, Art University of Tehran, Azad University, and Tehran Conservatory of Music, where he offered different courses including piano, music theory, sight-singing, ear-training, history, harmony, counterpoint, orchestration, composition, form and analysis. Keyan is the president and one of the co-founders and composers of ICOT. He is an associate composer of Canadian Music Centre as well as SOCAN foundation and the Canadian League of Composers.
